Welcome to No1 Old Tanrhiw
With the sound of water trickling over Welsh granite in the river opposite, you can be assured of a gentle awakening after a relaxing night’s sleep in this luxury two bedroomed holiday cottage. Recently refurbished to a very high standard, this end terraced spacious five roomed property has been owned by the same family since 1959. The oldest part was probably constructed before the turn of the eighteenth century - there is evidence that the upstairs rooms in this part were originally “uncealed” in other words thay had no ceilings and the whitewashed roof timbers were on display.
Situated on the outskirts of Beddgelert and within easy walking distance of the village centre for restaurants, pubs and shops, this cottage is in the heart of Snowdonia. It therefore offers an excellent base for mountaineering, climbing or just walking in the magnificent scenery of the North Wales mountains.
Being a mere 8 miles from the coast, a wealth of opportunities for holidays based around the sea are also possible. From the secluded sandy beaches of Borth-y-Guest, the drive-on beach of Black Rock sands, Criccieth and the harbour and marina associated with Porthmadog a wide variety of marine activities are available: The layby next to the cottage will accommodate the largest boat trailer! We also have storage for bikes / kayaks.
Apart from the village shops (the ice cream parlour is amongst the finest in the British Isles), plenty of shopping opportunities exist nearby: The town of Porthmadog is a mere 7 miles distant and the old capital of Wales, Caernarfon complete with castle to explore, is only 12 miles away. Both towns are linked by bus and have recently been linked again to Beddgelert by narrow gauge, often steam driven railway.
For a more conventional “seaside” feel, the resorts of Llandudno (pronounce the “u” as an “i” please as the Welsh do) and Rhyl are not too far away.
Other nearby activities include:
Visiting old mine workings both copper and slate, pony trekking, bicycle hire, Various narrow gauge often steam driven railways - Beddgelert now has its own narrow guage railway service to Porthmadog and Caernarfon, museums and guided tours. The area is a landscape artist’s paradise and the property provides a cool contemplative atmosphere for a writer.
In the warmer months enjoy a large patio with seating to enjoy the wonderful views of Snowdonia. Why not have a BBQ & chat with people passing by.
In the colder months ( our favourite time to go) get the wood burner going and get cosy !
